3-Way switches (known as intermediates) are to be used when the lighting circuit is controlled by three switches, often called a 3-way or intermediate circuit. This switch has four terminals on the back, enabling you to link all three switches of the circuit together. Make sure, on the 3-way circuit, that the other two switches are 2-way.
